Family Eye Care Tips this Summer!

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Live in the sunshine. Swim in the sea. Drink in the wild air.”

Yes, It’s time to enjoy the much-awaited summer season. With vacation time around the corner, we all have a list of activities lined up to soak it all in, which means more fun in the sun. Therefore, ensuring we practise good eye care habits to maintain healthy vision becomes even more critical.

Check out these easy, quick tips to keep you and your family’s eyes safe as you enjoy your favourite summer activities

👓 Shades all the way: Wear sunglasses! Sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun and shield them from harmful UV rays. They can help your eyes feel more comfortable under the bright sun, so make it a habit to wear sunglasses anytime you’re out – your eyes will thank you for it! There is a multitude of tint colours available as well as polarization, so you will be able to order a custom pair of sunglasses to suit your unique needs.

🏊 Tips before you dip: Swimming and playing in the water can be great fun, but taking care of your eyes is important. Don’t swim with contact lenses if you can avoid it, and always use swimming goggles when swimming or playing in the water. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids to prevent your eyes from drying out too quickly – this will help them stay healthy and comfortable while you’re having fun.

🎆Careful with sparkles – Fireworks are a fun and festive tradition, but they come with risks. Never try to handle or ignite fireworks – this could result in serious injury or death. Never let children play with fireworks – they may be injured if something goes wrong. If you’re planning to watch fireworks, keep a safe distance from them and always read the safety instructions on the package before using them. Celebrate the First of July right by being safe and having a blast!

🆒Your AC causes more than just high energy bills – Air conditioners reduce humidity and cause evaporative dry eye. As much as possible, wear glasses instead of contact lenses. Glasses can help prevent air from blowing on your eyes and slow your tears from evaporating. If you don’t need glasses to see, consider wearing glasses with plain, clear lenses. Keep your body hydrated by drinking lots of water throughout the day.

🍽️A Balanced diet keeps it right – When it comes to staying healthy, incorporating light exercise into your routine is crucial. Additionally, a balanced diet is essential for good health. Make sure to include whole grains, fruits, and vegetables in your meals to get the most out of them. And last but not least, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and healthy! This will help improve your health on a cellular level and boost your immune system.
Remember, prevention is better than cure! Make sure to not miss your regular eye checkups.
