Medical Eye Exams
Because of the delicate structure of the eyes, medical eye exams are one of the least invasive steps you can take to protect your health. A doctor of optometry will assess your eye health to identify any signs of systemic health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, and even tumours. For this reason, your family doctor may request you see an optometrist for an ocular health evaluation. These visits are often covered through Alberta Health Care. Make an appointment with your local optometrist today.
Dilated Fundus Exams
Pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure etc. may need additional testing to ensure that the overall health of the retina is maintained. These additional testing will include a dilation and retinal imaging. For the dilation, we will instill eye drops that will enlarge the pupils. The pupils will be enlarged for approximately 4-6 hours depending on eye color and age. It is recommended to bring a pair of sunglasses during these appointments as you may experience light sensitivity, and a driver if preferred.
